Candlestick Probability
What is candlestick probability?
Candlestick probability is a Stocksift Ultra product that lets users view and search the probability of winning and losing a trade based on a candlestick pattern. We provide 360+ candlestick patterns and probabilities for thousands of stocks using the current price data and the entire price history of each stock.
What are the benefits of candlestick probability?
By knowing the probability of winning and losing a trade, a trader is able to optimally size their position based on their perceived and estimated probability of winning and losing a trade. Optimal position sizing, relative to your risk and reward and the estimated probability of winning and losing, is how a trader may minimize their risk-of-ruin while simultaneously maximizing potential reward.
Are there candlestick pattern probabilities for multiple timeframes?
We identify candlestick patterns for the daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes and provide probabilities for the patterns in each timeframe.
How many candlestick patterns are there?
We offer over 360+ candlestick patterns and provide probabilities for all of them.
How many stocks have candlestick pattern data?
Any of the thousands of stocks, including ETFs, that we have price data for will be analyzed by our system to identify candlestick patterns and then calculate the probabilities per stock and pattern.
How frequent are the pattern probabilities updated?
Candlestick pattern probabilities are updated daily, at the end-of-day (EOD), after the stock market closes for the day.
What are fakey candlestick patterns?
Fakey candlestick patterns are false signals where the price goes in the opposite direction that the pattern traditionally predicts. A fakey signal is used by traders to take a position in the opposite direction that a pattern is conventionally known to predict. Candlestick patterns typically are used to predict the direction of the price, but when the pattern fails to predict the price direction, and the direction goes in the opposite direction that it typically predicts, traders then say it is a false signal or fakey pattern. This failed signal then suggests the price direction may go in the opposite direction, since the typical pattern direction was false, implying the opposite direction is true, which is where the predictive value in a fakey pattern exists.
What are confirmed candlestick patterns?
Confirmed candlestick patterns are signals where the underlying candlestick pattern correctly predicted the price direction. Traders often wait for candlestick patterns to be confirmed by price action before taking a trade, so that they mitigate the risk of whip-saws and false signals.
What are reversal candlestick patterns?
Reversal candlestick patterns are patterns that predict the price direction will go in the opposite direction of the current trend. For example, if the current trend is a downtrend, and you recognize a reversal pattern, then that pattern suggests the price will reverse from down to up.
What are continuation candlestick patterns?
Continuation candlestick patterns are patterns that predict the direction of the price trend will continue. For example, if the price is in an uptrend and you see a continuation pattern, then that pattern suggests the uptrend will continue.
What are indecision candlestick patterns?
Indecision candlestick patterns are patterns where price direction is indeterminate. In other words, indecision patterns are indecisive, as the price direction is unknown. Indecision patterns typically appear before a reversal, with the direction being up or down.
What are winning and losing patterns?
A winning pattern is when a pattern correctly predicts the price direction, which implies that if a trader entered a position on that pattern as an entry signal, then the trader would've won that trade. Losing patterns are when a pattern fails to correctly predict the price direction of a stock and the trader loses money on their position.
Backtesting
What is backtesting?
Backtesting is when a trader tests their trading system for profitability and measures its performance over historical price data. Backtest your trading system to see your strategy's profitability, number of wins and losses, and probability of winning or losing a trade with that system.
What are the benefits of backtesting?
The benefits of backtesting are that it lets traders quickly test their trading strategy without having to test it by risking real money in the stock market. Before trading, it is useful to know how your trading system, or strategy, performs over historical price data.
How do I backtest my trading system?
The backtesting feature is available to Stocksift Ultra members. Once you upgrade your account, then you can create a trading system of rules and backtest it against a stock for profitability.
What are single stock full-history backtests?
Single stock full-history backtests let users create custom backtests for a single stock and use that stock's entire price history and financial history during the backtest.
How much data is available for single stock full-history backtests?
